European Splendour
Day 1 - Arrive Rome (2 nights)
On arrival at Rome Fiumicino Airport we transfer you to your hotel. Tonight, enjoy a welcome drink with our Tour Director.

Hotel: Mercure Piazza Bologna (2 nights)

 

Day 2 - Rome sightseeing & at leisure
Our sightseeing tour with a local expert usingg our highlt effective audio system includes a visit to St. Peter's Basilica where we see the Pieta of Michelangelo and make a stop at the Forum to admire the Colosseum. We also see the Circus Maximus-scene of dangerous chariot races in 'Ben Hur'. Later, free time. (Buffet breakfast)

 

Day 3 - Rome - Florence
Today we drive through the Chianti Hills to Florence and Piazzale Michelangelo before our sightseeing tour on foot, with an audio system included, to Piazza Signoria and visiting Santa Croce Basilica, burial place of Italy's great men!

Day 4 - Florence - Venice (Main)
Over the Apennine Mountains to magical Venice and a private motor launch to St. Mark's Square, viewing the Bridge of Sighs and more. Later, we visit a glass-blowing factory. (Buffet breakfast/ Dinner)

Day 5 - Venice (Mestre) - Vienna (2 nights)
This morning after breakfast, we travel into the Carnian Alps to Austria. Then through the Austrian Lake District into the Alps and on to Imperial Vienna, where we spend the next two nights. (Buffet breakfast)

Hotel: Hilton Danube (2 nights)

 

Day 6 - Vienna sightseeing & at leisure
Our morning sightseeing tour highlights St.Stephen's Cathedral, the Hofburg, Imperial Boulevards and more. Then time on your own. Later, why not take in a concert of Strauss music? (Buffet breakfast)

 

Day 7 - Vienna - Salzburg - Innsbruck
This morning our drive takes us through the Vienna Woods and along the Danube Valley, past the Abbey of Melk to Salzburg. Here sightseeing on foot highlights Mozart's birthplace and more. From here it's off to mountain-ringed Innsbruck for the night.Here an orientation shows us the Golden Roof and Wilten Basilica before enjoying dinner in a local restaurant. (Buffet breakfast/ Dinner)

Day 8 - Innsbruck - Liechtenstein - Lucerne (2 nights)
After breakfast we enjoy a full day of Alpine scenery in the Arlberg region to Vaduz in the Principality of Liechtenstein. Next we continue to picturesque lakeside Lucerne. (Buffet breakfast/ Dinner)

Hotel: Flora (2 nights)

 

Day 9 - Lucerne orientation & at leisure
Our morning orientation shows us the Lion Monument and Chapel Bridge. Then free time to shop. (Buffet breakfast/ Dinner)

 

Day 10 - Lucerne - Paris (2 nights)
Towering Alps give way to French countryside en route to the wine- producing region of Burgundy. Then en route to the lively city of Paris, we view the Savigny-Les- Beaune vineyards. (Buffet breakfast)

Hotel: Evergreen Laurel (2 nights)

 

Day 11 - Paris sightseeing & at leisure
Today's sightseeing includes a drive along the Champs Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe and an ascent of the Eiffel Tower (second level). We view Notre Dame Cathedral before time at leisure. (Buffet Breakfast)

 

Day 12 - Paris - London
Today we drive pass World War I Battlefields to Calais port for our ferry crossing. Then by coach we head to London. (Buffet breakfast)

Airport Transfers
  • London Gateways: Transfers can be expensive, particularly between the Airport and central London. When you book your tour with Trafalgar your transfers to and from the airport are included. It's that simple. Trafalgar has included a Free transfer to and from your airport and Central London.
  • Important – Please Note: Passengers will only be entitled to transfers to and from London Airports providing the following conditions are met:
  • You are staying at a London hotel, booked by Trafalgar, on the night of your arrival and the night prior to the date of your departure.
  • Flights are either booked by Trafalgar or detailed information on flights is provided by your Travel Agent not less than 21 days prior to departure.
  • Only one included transfer both inbound and outbound per tour is included by Trafalgar. Transfers are by express train to a Central London Rail Station.
  • Heathrow Express operates between 05.10-23.30. Gatwick Express operates inbound services between 05.20-23.45 and outbound services from 04.30-23.45. Transfers outside of these times are at the passengers own expense.

A1 - VIENNA. Imperial Highlights
We enjoy a guided visit to the Palace of Schönbrunn, with its magnificently preserved state rooms and exquisite gardens. From the summer residence of the Hapsburg monarchs, we continue to either the Imperial Treasures, the Vienna Opera House or the Crypts and Vaults of the Imperial family for a guided tour.

A4b - VIENNA. Hungarian Gypsy Dinner and Schnapps Museum or Prater Wheel
First we visit the cheerful Prater Park to take a gentle ride on the historic Big Wheel and admire the picturesque skyline of Vienna. Alternatively, we will visit the home of the Fischer family to see how the local Schnapps is made and to taste some delicious samples! Then continue to a Hungarian Gypsy Restaurant, where we enjoy echoes of a bygone era and regional food specialities. (Drinks and Music included).

A14 - SALZBURG. Eagle’s Nest Tour & Bavarian Alps
Driving deep into the National Park past bucolic farmhouses and picturesque villages, we arrive at the ruins of Obersalzburg. From here we transfer to special motorcoaches adapted to the scenic mountain climb to Hilter’s notorious ‘Eagle’s Nest’. Through the arches we will have splendid views up to the ‘Hohen Göll’ and across snow-capped peaks.

A16 - SALZBURG. Hohensalzburg, Mozart’s House and Lunch
First we visit the home in which Mozart was born and where he spent the early part of his life – a quaint little house in the heart of the old city. First we enjoy a spectacular drive leading us to a typical mountain village where we take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the magnificent alpine valley. Then we ascend to the new ski-jump, built in a bid to host the 2008 Winter Olympics. Enjoy the breathtaking views from the top before we see the spot where the Tyrolean Freedom fighters, led by Andreas Hofer, beat Napoleon’s troops into retreat.

F8 - PARIS. Illuminations and Dinner
After an unforgettable dinner in typical Parisian style, drinks included, we take a drive through the city. By night, Paris is a city transformed - no other city has such striking illuminations, such glamour or romance. I14 - ROME. Ancient and Christian Rome
Explore Rome’s past. Visit the Catacombs where the early Christians assembled to escape persecution and which were used as underground cemeteries. On some tours a visit to the Chuch of St. Peter in Chains to see Michelangelo’s statue of Moses, will be visited instead of the Pantheon. Here we will enjoy a delicious dinner, punctuated by a concert of typical Italian songs and ‘bel canto’ for which this country is justifiably famous! Sit back, relax and imbibe the special Roman atmosphere – the wine or soft drinks are also included!

I40 - ROME. Introduction to Rome by Night
Cameras at the ready for the many magnificent sights awaiting us as we ‘do as the Romans do’ and start the evening with a ‘passegiata’ (evening stroll) along the Via Condotti to the world-famous Spanish Steps in Rome’s most fashionable shopping area. The ‘Campidoglio’, Piazza Venezia and so much more are included on this evening visit before we linger in Piazza Navona with its many pavement cafés and trattorias to admire the seventeenth century fountains and architecture. NB On certain departures, the Spanish Steps will be substituted by the Piazza Rotonda, dominated by the mighty Pantheon.

I49 - VENICE. Venice by night
A scintillating introduction to this magical city! First we cruise along the Grand Canal by private water taxis admiring the elegant Palazzos, illuminated by magnificent chandeliers. We see the Rialto Bridge and then reach the ‘most beautiful outdoor drawing room in the world’ - St. Mark’s Square. Here we will have time to wonder at the impressive architecture before enjoying an included drink at one of the chic ‘al fresco’ cafés whilst listening to the music of its own orchestra! I70 - ROME. Ancient and Baroque Christian sites
First we drive past the ancient baths of the Emperor Caracalla, scene of the ‘3 tenors concert’ in 1990, to the Catacombs outside the Roman Walls. Christians used these underground churches and cemeteries for assemblies and to escape persecution. Then on to visit the 5th century Church of St. Peter in Chains*, housing not only the chains which are said to have fettered St. Peter, but also one of Michelangelo’s greatest works of sculpture – Moses – a statue belonging to the mausoleum of Julius II. (* on certain departures the Church of St. Paul without the Walls will be visited instead of the Church of St. Peter in Chains) Our visit will be enhanced by the effective use of our excellent audio system.

I71 - VENICE. A guided tour of St. Mark’s Basilica & the Doges’ Palace
Accompanied by a local expert we are taken into the magnificent Doges’ Palace – home to the rulers of the Venetian republic for hundreds of years. We are shown the main highlights of the palace and its elegant courtyards, before entering the Byzantine Basilica of St. Mark the Evangelist, patron saint of the city of Venice. Here we admire the stunning golden mosaics and wonderful Byzantine architecture. (entrance fees included).

Widely considered to be the most lovely of the mountain lakes, much of the shoreline of Lake Lucerne can only be fully appreciated from the water. Admire the spectacular homes of the fortunate few, privileged to live on its scenic shores, as we cruise gently by.

CH2 - LUCERNE. Swiss Experience

Later a series of cable cars will bring us gradually down through fields and forests to the foot of this majestic mountain. (On certain departures the ascent as well as the descent of the mountain will be by cable car only)
