Highlights of Italy & Sicily
Day 1 - Arrive Rome (2 nights)
On arrival at Rome Fiumicino Airport you are transferred to your hotel. After check-in the rest of your day at leisure.

Day 2 - Rome sightseeing & at leisure.
Today, we enjoy a guided visit of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Then we stop at the Forum to wonder at the mighty Colosseum before time at leisure. (Continental breakfast)

 
Day 3 - Rome - Florence (Calenzano)
We drive to Pisa today where we view the famous Leaning Tower. Then we're off to Florence, with the rest of the day free. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)

Day 4 - Florence (Calenzano) - Venice (Main.) (2 nights)
Our guided sightseeing tour on foot highlights Santa Croce Basilica, Signoria Square, the Cathedral and Baptistry. We also admire the panoramic view from Piazzale Michelangelo. Afterwards, we make our way to magical Venice for two nights. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)

Day 5 - Venice orientation & at leisure
Today starts with an included canal cruise by vaporetto to St. Mark's Square. We view the Bridge of Sighs and Doges' Palace before a visit to a glass-blowing factory. (Continental breakfast)
 
Day 6 - Venice (Mestre) - San Marino - Assisi
Today's drive takes us across the Apennine Mountains to San Marino. From here we head to the city of Assisi, where an orientation tour highlights St. Francis' Basilica. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)

Day 7 - Assisi - Naples - At Sea
After breakfast our journey takes us south through Umbria. Here you may wish to take an excursion to visit Pompeii. Next, we continue to nearby Naples, where we board our steamer for the overnight crossing to Palermo, Sicily's capital. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)

 
Day 8 - At Sea - Palermo
After a morning arrival at Palermo we enjoy a sightseeing tour with a local guide which includes the Piazza Bellini. Next we make a stop for views of the Conca d'Oro from Monreale, and visit the 12th century Norman Cathedral. Finally, we visit the fishing village of Mondello before returning to Palermo for night.

Day 9 - Palermo - Agrigento
Our first stop is at Selinunte, where we will visit the Dorian Temples and the Acropolis. Then accompanied by a local guide, we make our way to Agrigento, to visit the nearby Valley of Temples. We overnight at Agrigento with dinner at our hotel. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)

Day 10- Agrigento - Taormina (Acireale) (2 nights)
Today our travels takes us through the vineyards of the Southern Hills to visit the Villa of Casale. Then we are off to Piazza Armerina before we make a stop to view the fortress town of Enna. Soon we arrive in Taormina, where we spend the next two nights. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)

Day 11 - Taormina (Acireale) at leisure.
A full day to relax in this fun-loving Sicilian resort. There's also a chance to visit the Castle of San Pancrazio or take an excursion to the crater of Sicily's active volcano, Mount Etna. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)
 
Day 12 - Taormina (Acireale) - Bay of Sorrento (2 nights)
Our day begins with a drive along the coast where we board our ferry to cross the Straits of Messina arriving at mainland Italy. From here we continue by coach through Calabria and via Salerno to our hotel in Sorrento for two nights. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)

Day 13 - Sorrento Orientation & at leisure
This morning we witness the art of inlaid wood-working. Then an orientation shows us the Piazza Tasso and the Corso Italia with its many boutiques. Time to take an excursion to the Isle of Capri before returning to our hotel. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)
 
Day 14 - Sorrento - Rome
Today we drive north where we view the Abbey of Monte Cassino. Later, we return to Rome. (Continental breakfast)

Airport Transfers

I5a - BAY OF NAPLES. Capri Excursion with Lunch
Cruise the Tyrrenhian Sea to the legendary island of Capri. Here we see the major highlights of this unforgettable place. The spectacular drive up to Anacapri reveals vistas across the azure waters of the Bay of Naples. Then we descend the short distance to Capri Town, where we visit the luxuriant Caesar Augustus gardens for views of the Faraglioni rocks, and have time to savour the cosmopolitan mood of the Piazzetta before a funicular takes us down to the Marina. A light lunch will be included during our visit.

I7 - ROME. Evening Tour: Fountains and Dinner
A lighthearted introduction to the “Eternal City”. Make sure of a safe return to Rome as you toss coins in to the Trevi Fountain. I14 - ROME. Ancient and Christian Rome
Explore Rome’s past. Visit the Catacombs where the early Christians assembled to escape persecution and which were used as underground cemeteries. Then, on to the best preserved of the Roman Temples, the Pantheon - today used as a Christian church! On some tours a visit to the Chuch of St. Peter in Chains to see Michelangelo’s statue of Moses, will be visited instead of the Pantheon. I29 - FLORENCE. Medici Evening and Sumptuous Banquet in a Renaissance Palace
Tonight a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach! In a sumptuous Renaissance Palace, we will be served a delicious banquet of modern Tuscan cuisine - the main course brought to us by waiters in Renaissance dress. We will be entertained with Renaissance music, dancing and songs by a troop of singers and dancers in the flowing robes of the Medici era. Wine and coffee are included with the meal and show.

I40 - ROME. Introduction to Rome by Night
Cameras at the ready for the many magnificent sights awaiting us as we ‘do as the Romans do’ and start the evening with a ‘passegiata’ (evening stroll) along the Via Condotti to the world-famous Spanish Steps in Rome’s most fashionable shopping area. The ‘Campidoglio’, Piazza Venezia and so much more are included on this evening visit before we linger in Piazza Navona with its many pavement cafés and trattorias to admire the seventeenth century fountains and architecture. NB On certain departures, the Spanish Steps will be substituted by the Piazza Rotonda, dominated by the mighty Pantheon.

Then downtown we visit one of the most colourful markets of the city with its stalls of olives, spices and giant lemons – an opportunity to enjoy picturesque Sicilian everyday life!

I70 - ROME. Ancient and Baroque Christian sites
First we drive past the ancient baths of the Emperor Caracalla, scene of the ‘3 tenors concert’ in 1990, to the Catacombs outside the Roman Walls. Christians used these underground churches and cemeteries for assemblies and to escape persecution. Then on to visit the 5th century Church of St. Peter in Chains*, housing not only the chains which are said to have fettered St. Peter, but also one of Michelangelo’s greatest works of sculpture – Moses – a statue belonging to the mausoleum of Julius II. (* on certain departures the Church of St. Paul without the Walls will be visited instead of the Church of St. Peter in Chains) Our visit will be enhanced by the effective use of our excellent audio system.

I71 - VENICE. A guided tour of St. Mark’s Basilica & the Doges’ Palace
