Highlights of France & Spain
Day 1 - Arrive Paris
On arrival at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport you are met and transferred to your hotel. After a welcome meeting with your Tour Director time to relax in one of the most romantic cities.

Day 2 - Paris - Bordeaux
This morning we drive to the Loire Valley at Tours. Here we view the Cathedral before heading to Cognac to visit a distillery. Later we arrive in elegant Bordeaux for dinner and overnight. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)

Day 3 - Bordeaux - Burgos
Today, through the vineyards of Bordeaux, we skirt the sand-dunes of Les Landes, stopping in Biarritz. Then, we continue via the foothills of the Pyrenées into the Basque country of northern Spain. From here we pass by San Sebastian, and follow in the footsteps of El Cid to Burgos. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)

Day 4 - Burgos - Madrid (2 nights)
Today we head across the high plains to the golden stone town of Segovia. Next we make our way to Madrid, Europe's highest capital where our sightseeing tour shows us the Puerta del Sol, Plaza de España with its monument to Cervantes, and Cibeles Fountain. Tonight, why not enjoy dinner at a typical 'meson'? (Continental breakfast)

Day 5 - Castilian Excursion
This morning we drive towards Toledo. Here a local guide shows us the Cathedral and ancient synagogue. We see the El Greco masterpiece in the chapel of Santo Tomé and the art of Damascene at a local workshop. Later it's back to Madrid with a free afternoon. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)

 
Day 6 - Madrid - Cordoba - Seville (2 nights)
Via Rodrigo's Aranjuez and views of its Royal Palace, we head down to the La Mancha Plain. We stop at Puerto Lapice where, according to tradition, Don Quixote was dubbed knight by one of the local innkeepers. From here we make our way to Cordoba, where we visit the ' Mezquita', hosting its main Cathedral. After, it's an evening arrival in Seville for our two-night stay.

Day 7 - Seville sightseeing & at leisure
After breakfast our morning sightseeing tour shows us the gardens of the Maria Luisa Park and Murillo's House, the Santa Cruz District and the tower of La Giralda. Then there's time at leisure, perhaps take a trip down the Guadalquivir past the Expo '92 sites. Andalusia is the home of the Flamenco, so this evening, why not enjoy a show of this exciting and passionate dance?

Day 8 - Seville - Granada
Today we enjoy a half day drive to the majestic hilltop city of Granada, in the shadow of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Here an orientation tour shows us the gypsy quarter of the Albaicin. Then with time at leisure, why not take an excursion to explore the awe-inspiring Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens?

Day 9 - Granada - Alicante
Our journey today takes us through the jagged Mora Pass, as we drive towards Guadix. Here we view Troglodyte dwellings hewn out of the soft rock, characteristic of this Spanish countryside. Next continue to the coastline of Alicante, where gaily coloured parasols line the beaches. We dine at our hotel tonight.

Day 10 - Alicante - Valencia - Barcelona (2 nights)
This morning we drive along the coast arriving in the sunny garden city of Valencia. Here an orientation tour features the Town Hall, the Bullring, La Lonja, and the Towers of Serrano and Cuarte. After with time at leisure, maybe enjoy some of those famous sweet Valencia oranges! Later, we continue our journey to Barcelona for two exciting nights. (Continental breakfast)

Day 11 - Barcelona sightseeing & at leisure
The gothic magnificence of the 14th century Cathedral and the art nouveau fantasies of Gaudi's 'Sagrada Familia' are revealed on morning sightseeing. Then enjoy time on your own. Why not take a stroll along the colourful Ramblas to the Columbus Monument or relax in a pavement café? (Continental breakfast / Dinner)

 
Day 12 - Barcelona - Cannes (2 nights)
Our morning drive takes us across the French border past Perpignan and into the wine-producing plains of Languedoc. From here we follow the Côte d'Améthyste to the scenic Camargue. Then on through Impressionist Provençal landscapes on our way route to Nice on the glittering Riviera. (Continental breakfast / Dinner)

Day 13 - Cannes and Monte Carlo
Enjoy a full morning at leisure. Why not laze on the beach or take an excursion to the hilltop town of St. Paul de Vence and visit a perfumery? Later, an included excursion takes us to exciting Monte Carlo, where we see the famous casinos. (Continental breakfast)

 
Day 14 - Cannes - Lyon
We travel through Provence to Avignon, where we stop for photos of the gothic Papal Palace and St. Benezet Bridge of 'Sur le Pont' fame. From here it's on to Lyon, gastronomic capital of France, where there are many wonderful restaurants to choose from tonight. (Continental breakfast)

Day 15 - Lyon - Paris (2 nights)
Today we drive takes us along the Rhône Valley to visit the charming medieval town of Beaune. Then we continue through the famous Burgundy wine region on the Autoroute du Soleil as we make our way back towards Paris, where we spend the next two nights. (Continental breakfast)

Day 16 - Paris sightseeing & at leisure
Morning sightseeing includes views of the Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysées, Eiffel Tower and visits Notre Dame Cathedral. The rest of the day is at leisure. Why not detour into the intriguing back streets of the Latin Quarter, head for the artistic highlights of the Louvre or Montmartre and the imposing Sacré Coeur? Tonight, perhaps enjoy a thrilling cabaret or dine in one of the Left Bank bistros. (Continental breakfast)

 

Day 17 - Depart Paris
After breakfast it's 'au revoir' Paris as we transfer you to Charles de Gaulle airport for your return flight home. (Continental breakfast)

Airport Transfers

This afternoon we take a scenic excursion along the Riviera of the Three Corniche Roads, enjoying spectacular views along perhaps the most beautiful coast in Europe. When we finally reach the ‘Grand Corniche’ - the highway which follows the ancient Aurelian Way - we stop at the picturesque village of ‘La Turbie’. There the Emperor Augustus erected a Roman ‘Trophy’ - a dazzling white sacrificial temple to mark the border between Rome and Gaul (modern-day France), and from this spot we admire a sweeping panorama over the Mediterranean and the Principality of Monaco. This guided tour takes us first to the royal city of El Escorial. This great monastery-palace was built in the foothills of the Guadarrama mountains by Philip II, in thanksgiving for his victory over the French at the battle of St. Quentin in 1557. After a break for lunch, we continue to visit the memorial built by Franco to those who fell in the Civil War. High in the mountains, with splendid views, this amazing memorial was cut into the rock face to create the largest basilica ever built. It is surmounted by a cross some 410 feet high.
