ITINERARY

 
European Cavalcade
Day 1 - London - Amsterdam
Welcome from our Tour Director as we drive to Dover for our ferry crossing to Calais in France. Here we join our coach and travel through Belgian countryside to Holland and Amsterdam. A short orientation tour shows us the Dam Square and Tower of Tears. (Continental Breakfast)

Day 2 - Amsterdam - Rhine Cruise - Rhineland (Hirschberg)
This morning we visit a diamond-cutting factory before heading to Cologne with its gothic Cathedral. Then, picturesque villages and medieval castles provide a delightful setting for our leisurely Rhine cruise. Later, see the Lorelei Rock as we make our way to our hotel for dinner and overnight stay. (Continental Breakast / Dinner)

Day 3 - Rhineland (Hirschberg) - Lake Lucerne (2 nights)
Our day begins in the town of Heidelberg with views of the ancient castle. From here we continue on to Freiburg, and then wind through the Black Forest to see beautiful Lake Titisee. At Schaffhausen, we stop to view the mighty Rhine Falls before driving via Zurich to the beautiful lake of Lucerne for two nights. (Continental Breakfast / Dinner)

Day 4 - Lucerne at leisure
This lovely city holds many delights, on our orientation we see the Lion Monument and the Old Town. At leisure maybe take a scenic cruise on the lake, shop for Swiss watches and chocolates or take a cog railway up one of the nearby mountains. (Continental Breakfast / Dinner)

 
Day 5 - Lake Lucerne - Liechtenstein - Innsbruck
Today we cross the Swiss border to the Principality of Liechtenstein for a brief stop at its capital, Vaduz. From here we continue into Austria, via the Arlberg Pass to the Olympic city of Innsbruck for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6 - Innsbruck - Verona - Venice (Main.) (2 nights)
This morning a short orientation features Innsbruck's main sights. Next we climb the alps, through the Brenner Pass and cross into Italy. We stop at Verona, city of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and then on to magical Venice.

Day 7 - Venice orientation & at leisure
All around us are vivid reminders of Venetian maritime power and wealth, as we cruise along the criss-crossing canals. Later we visit a glass blowing factory. Then time at leisure, perhaps to visit St. Mark's Basilica and cruise to the islands of the Lagoon. (Continental Breakfast)

 
Day 8 - Venice (Main.) - Rome (2 nights)
This morning we head across the plains of Veneto, before taking the Autostrada del Sole to the bustling excitement of Rome for two nights. This evening, perhaps relax and watch the world go by from one of the cafés on the Piazza Navona. (Continental Breakfast)

Day 9 - Rome sightseeing & at leisure
Today's sightseeing tour in the 'Eternal City' highlights St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican and includes views of the Colosseum and Forum. Then enjoy time on your own to perhaps marvel at the Sistine Chapel, see incredible tapestries in the Vatican Museum and take a trip to ancient Tivoli. (Continental Breakfast)

 
Day 10 - Rome - Sorrento
Our first sight of the day is the Abbey of Monte Cassino as we make our way to the Bay of Naples and our hotel for the night. On arrival perhaps take an excursion to the Isle of Capri, with its luxuriant plants and flowers and then cruise back across the Mediterranean Sea to Sorrento! Dinner is at our hotel tonight. (Continental Breakfast / Dinner)

Day 11 - Sorrento - Florence (Pontassieve)
Today you have the opportunity to take an optional visit to the excavations at Pompeii before we drive through Tuscany to the Renaissance city of Florence, where tonight we will have dinner in our hotel. (Continental Breakfast / Dinner)

Day 12 - Florence (Pontassieve) - Pisa - Nice (2 nights)
We will drive up to Piazzale Michelangelo where we will enjoy stunning views of the city. Then time at leisure perhaps to visit Giotto's Bell tower, the Baptistery and Signoria Square. Then we continue to Pisa - Galileo's home town. En route we pass by Genoa, Columbus' birthplace, and on to the fashionable French Riviera and Nice for two nights.

Day 13 - Nice at leisure
Orientation of the city of Nice shows us the Promenade des Anglais and the Place Massena. At leisure, why not take an excursion to St. Paul de Vence and Grasse? Later, we visit Monaco where we see the famous Monte Carlo Casino. (Continental Breakfast)

 
Day 14 - Nice - Cannes - Lyon
This morning we stop in the nearby resort of Cannes to join the jet set and to see the Boulevard de la Croisette and the Film Festival centre. Then through the beautiful countryside of Van Gogh and Cézanne as we travel via Aix-en-Provence to Avignon, with its Palace of the Popes. From here we continue through the Rhône Valley on our way to Lyon for dinner and overnight stay. (Continental Breakfast / Dinner)

Day 15 - Lyon - Paris (2 nights)
This morning's drive takes us through the wine-producing region of Burgundy and the Forest of Fontainebleau. Later, we arrive in the elegant and romantic city of Paris for two nights. (Continental Breakfast)

Day 16 - Paris sightseeing & at leisure
Our morning sightseeing tour includes views of the Champs Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower and the Cathedral of Notre Dame. This evening, you have the chance to toast a memorable tour with a cabaret evening and dinner!

Day 17 - Paris - London
It's 'au revoir' Paris today as our route takes us past the Battlefields of two World Wars to the port of Calais where we board our ferry for a short sea crossing to the White Cliffs of Dover and then we return to London.

Airport Transfers

I23 - FLORENCE. Dinner, Wine & Music in the Chianti Hills
Our guided tour begins with the Academy of Fine Arts with its Michelangelo collection including the world famous statue of David. We continue to the Duomo with its dome by Brunelleschi, Bell Tower by Giotto and the Paradise Doors of the Baptistry by Ghiberti. I40 - ROME. Introduction to Rome by Night
Cameras at the ready for the many magnificent sights awaiting us as we ‘do as the Romans do’ and start the evening with a ‘passegiata’ (evening stroll) along the Via Condotti to the world-famous Spanish Steps in Rome’s most fashionable shopping area. The ‘Campidoglio’, Piazza Venezia and so much more are included on this evening visit before we linger in Piazza Navona with its many pavement cafés and trattorias to admire the seventeenth century fountains and architecture. NB On certain departures, the Spanish Steps will be substituted by the Piazza Rotonda, dominated by the mighty Pantheon.

I49 - VENICE. Venice by night
A scintillating introduction to this magical city! First we cruise along the Grand Canal by private water taxis admiring the elegant Palazzos, illuminated by magnificent chandeliers. CH2 - LUCERNE. Swiss Experience
Enjoy an unforgettable trip along the lake to nearby mountain slopes, and ascend by cog-wheel railway and cable car to spectacular alpine views. The mountain air will whet your appetite for a delicious lunch with drink included (one of the courses will be a cheese fondue), in one of Switzerland’s most atmospheric restaurants. Yodelling and alpine horns will contribute to your enjoyment of the accompanying traditional folklore show. CH13 - LUCERNE. Mount Stanserhorn Excursion
Drive along the Lake of Lucerne to come to the village of Stans, terminal of one of Switzerland’s oldest mountain railways. We climb to the top by funicular railway and modern cable car to reach 6,300 feet - an excellent vantage from which to view the breathtaking scenery of Alpine Switzerland. Free time to take in the air and perhaps some refreshment before we descend and return to Lucerne.
