International Airport for departure flight
to Shanghai. Upon arrival, transfer

Day 02: Shanghai / Xintiandi Shikumen /
Cheng Huang Mao / The Bund
(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Xintiandi Shikumen: As a re-creation born
out of the sprawls of Shikumen housing,
which is the architectural symbol of
Shanghai in the 20th century, Shanghai
Xintiandi is an urban tourist attraction
imbued with the city's historical and
cultural legacies. Shanghai Xintiandi's
Shikumen attraction was created by
converting residential blocks into a
multifunctional dining, retail and
entertainment center flowing with
restaurants, boutiques, cafes and bars of an
international standard.
Cheng Huang Mao: The temple, or Cheng Huang
Miao, is only a short distance from Yu Yuan.
Once every city and large town possessed a
temple to the town gods, but few have
survived.
The Bund: The Bund (Wai Tan) waterfront area
is a sweeping area along the Huangpu River
that became the center of Shanghai's foreign
business establishment and the symbol of
Shanghai's identity as a modern city. The
name "bund" is derived from an
Anglo-Indian term meaning "muddy
embankment," but after the 1920's the
area became a showcase for foreign
enterprises, with impressive Western-style
banks, trading houses, hotels, consulates,
and clubs filling the shore, with promenade
along the river. British, French, American,
German, Japanese and Russian facilities were
built here, in styles ranging from
Neo-Classical to Art Deco, giving the area a
pronounced European flavor. Foreign
enterprises and facilities were forced out
after the Communist victory in 1949, and
many of the buildings were occupied by
government offices and banks. More recently
many of the stately old buildings have been
renovated in recognition of their status as
historical and tourist sites. |

Day 03: Shanghai / Pudong New Area /
Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower / People's
Square (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Pudong New Area: Located east of the
Huangpu River in an area that was devoted to
farms and rice paddies little more than a
decade ago, the Pudong Special Economic Zone
occupies an area larger than old Shanghai
itself. Designed to be the Wall Street of
Asia, Pudong is the finance and business
center of Shanghai, and headquarters for
most of the multinational corporations and
international banks active in Shanghai.
Linked to the older Puxi part of the city by
two cable bridges, the Yangpu and Nanpu,
supposedly the 2nd and 3rd longest in the
world; a new pedestrian tunnel; and the
city's second metro line, Pudong houses
dozens of new skyscrapers, though much of
the district is still empty. The new Pudong
International Airport opened in 1999. An
eight-lane Century Boulevard provides a main
ground transportation artery, and large
expatriate housing developments are built or
planned for outlying areas.
Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower: It was
completed on 1 October 1994. It is 468m
high, being the highest in Asia and the
third highest in the world. It stands
opposite to the bund on the west bank. The
architectural modeling of the tower is
unique, expressing the flavor of oriental
culture. The tower consists of 11 spheres,
different in sizes and arranged at different
levels, hanging from the sky down the green
lawns. The body of the tower is formed of
two huge glittering spheres and one small
delicate sphere; the sightseeing level in
the upper sphere is 45m in circumference,
263m high, offering a bird's-eye view of the
city. In the upper sphere at the 267m level,
there is a revolving restaurant, a disco
ball, a piano accompanied bar and at the
271m level there are 20 KTV private rooms.
The space cabin is at a level of 350m,
containing a sightseeing terrace, a meeting
hall and a coffee room. Hotel in the Air is
in the five smaller spheres with 20 guest
rooms. The lower sphere contains a space
city. There is a science fiction city inside
the tower pedestal. The Oriental Pearl TV
Tower combines sightseeing, catering,
shopping, recreation, accommodation,
broadcasting and TV transmission into one
body. It has become a symbolic architecture
and a favorable spot for tourists in
Shanghai.
People's Square: Located at the very center
of the city, People's Square is a
garden-type open space surrounded by
buildings and facilities for administration,
cultural activities, transportation and
commerce. On its north is the People's
Mansion, to its northwest the Shanghai Grand
Theater, to its northeast the Shanghai Urban
Planning Exhibition Hall, and to its south
the Shanghai Museum. Flanked on both sides
by 17m wide green belts, People's Avenue
goes across the center of the square. The
total green areas in the square reach 80,000
square meters. It is an oasis in the city. |

Day 04: Shanghai Free at own leisure /
Nanjing Road (Breakfast)
Shanghai has been famed as "the
Shopping Paradise" and "the
Oriental Paris" in history. Nanjing
Road, China's No.1 Commercial Street is a
must for all visitors; Huaihai Road, an
elegant and cultural commercial attracts
thousands of young people who search for the
latest fashion trends, and Sichuan Road, a
popular commercial street, is specially
favored by the working classes. In addition,
Hundred-year-old stores and shops that sell
local special products and are well-known at
home and abroad can be found in good
locations. Shanghai is also famous for its
great variety of local special products and
artistic handicrafts.
Nanjing Road: Nanjing Road is Shanghai's
busiest street. It starts at the Bund, south
of the Peace Hotel, and runs west. It is the
city's main shopping area with department
stores, small shops, restaurants, theaters
and cinemas lining up the street. To the
south of Nanjing Road is the Renmin
(People's) Park. To the west is the
Municipal Library, which was built in 1894. |
Day 05: Shanghai / Singapore (Breakfast)

transfer to airport for departure back to
