Day 01: Singapore - Bagdogra - Transfer to Gangtok
Met
on arrival and transfer to Gangtok (4hrs)
Check-in to
hotel. Evening at leisure.
Shopping - The main
markets for shopping are Old market, New market and Lai
market. Here, one can find shops of all kind, which
offers good range of items to be purchased. For tourist,
there are many attractive items to be bought as carved
furniture, the dresses, Lepcha weave bags, Carpets &
Durries with intricate designs and colorful decorations.
One can buy wooden and bamboo artifacts. For a collector
of handmade decorative pieces, Gangtok is a paradise.
The items from Gangtok leave a long lasting impression
on the mind of the visitor. The Hindi speaking Marwaris
dominates many of the shops in the Gangtok market. |

Day 02: Gangtok (Breakfast)
After
breakfast, depart for local
sightseeing at 08.30am,
covering flower show, handicraft centre & Rumtek
Monastery.
Afternoon free at leisure or take optional tour to
Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir.
Rumtek Monastery -
A 24km drive from Gangtok, through the beautiful,
bewitching countryside leads one to Rumtek. Rumtek, is
the seat of the Karmapa Lama who heads the Kagyupa Sect
of Buddhism. |

Tsomgo Lake
& Baba Mandir

Tsomgo Lake - It is
literally known as "source of the lake" in Bhutia
language. Just about 40km away from Gangtok, the capital
of the state, this serene lake is situated at an
altitude of 12,000 ft on the Gangtok Nathu La Highway.
It falls in the restricted areas and hence an inner
permits is required by Indians to visit the place.
Foreign nationals are not permitted to visit the lake
without special permission. The lake is about 1km long,
oval in shape, 15m deep and is considered sacred by the
local people. It is also a home of brahminy ducks. It's
cool, placid water harmonizes with the scenic beauty
around. A small temple of lord Siva is constructed on
the lakeside. This placid lake remains frozen during the
winter months up to mid-May. Between May and August, it
is possible to see a variety of flowers in blooms,
including the rhododendrons, various species of
primulas, blue and yellow poppies, irises etc. It is
also an ideal habitat for the panda and various species
of birds. |
Day 03: Gangtok - Lanchung (Breakfast)
After breakfast at 09.30am, depart for Lachung.
Lachung - The road from
Lachung takes one into another world. This is the area
inhabited by the Lachungpas, a hardy mountain people who
consider themselves quite different from the Bhatias and
the Tibetans. The lush green, terraced hillsides, even
in the winter, were a testimony to the grit and
determination of these people. Lachung is the last
habitation on the road to Yumthang, a monastery; hidden
high on the hillside overlooked a settlement of
Lachungpas and the barracks of Indian army. the
mountains on the other side of the valley rose up to
snowy heights. In the distance, one could see the
impression of a track that was once used by traders to
cross over from Tibet with their mules laden with
Chinese silk. |
Day 04:
Lanchung - Gangtok (Breakfast)
After
breakfast, depart for
sightseeing at 8am, covering Yumthang valley and hot
spring. Have an early lunch and depart for Gangtok.
Yumthang Valley in
the northern Sikkim is simply beautiful. Located at a
distance of 135km form Gangtok, the gently sloping
valley is at an altitude of 12,000 ft and is now open to
foreigners. The region is known for its hot sulphur
springs of Yumey Samdong where the spring water is
diverted into pools and the infrastructure required for
good soak is available. The valley also has the awesome
Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary (for more details on the
sanctuary, see the Wildlife section). Unlike elsewhere
in the state, the rhododendron blooms in the Yumthang
valley are not only red but also in a variety of colors.
Naturally, the best time to explore the valley is in
May, when the wild rhododendron dot he alpine meadows.
Traveller require an inner line permit to enter the
Yumthang valley. This can be easily acquired through a
local travel agent at Gangtok or from other towns.
Yumthang Hot Spring -
At an altitude of 12,000 ft, 135km from Gangtok
in north Sikkim, a hundred metres off the road, after
crossing river Lachung over a pedestrian bridge lies
these sulphur springs. There is a hut with two pools for
bathing. |
Day 05:
Gangtok -
Pelling
(Breakfast)
After
breakfast, depart for Pelling
at 9am. Free at leisure for the rest of the day or take
optional tour of Singshore and Sangey Waterfalls.
Pelling - One of the
most favorite travel destination situated between the
Monasteries Pemayangtse of & Sanga-Choling. It can
be reached by bus or jeep services from Gangtok which is
125km away and from Siliguri is 133km away. Most of the
tourist visit during the months of March to June and
September to December. From here, one can visit the
Khachoedperi Lake,
Khangchengzonga Waterfalls & Rimbi Waterfalls,
Changay Waterfalls, Sigshore Bridge, Dentam Bazaar and
Yuksam which was the first capital of Sikikm. |

Sigshore Bridge -
This monastery
is situated one ridge above Pelling and the famous
Pemayangtse Monastery. Built in 1697 AD, it is
considered to be one of the oldest monasteries in the
state. In order to reach this Monastery, one has to be
prepared to spend at least 40 minutes walking up the
steep hilly slope which leads through rich forest
covers. Bhumchu Ceremony is celebrated with devotees
coming from far and near to get blessing of the holy
water. The sacred holy water is officially sealed for
safety by the government and the lams of the Monastery
and it is taken out once a year on the auspicious
occasion, only to be put back with some fresh additions.
The sacred water which is taken out partly mixed with
normal water to be distributed among the thousand of
devotees.

Day 06: Pelling - Kalimpong
(Breakfast)
After
breakfast
at 08.30am, depart for local sightseeing covering
Pemayangtse
Monastery, Khecheopalri
Lake, Khangchengzonga Waterfalls & Rimbi Waterfalls and
then proceed to Kalimpong.
Pemayangtse
Monastery is special because it is meant only
for 'ta sang' lamas (pure monks). Believed to have been
conceptualized and designed by the pioneer of Buddhism
in Sikkim, Lhatsun Chhembo,
Pemayangtse
soon became the nuclei of
Monasteries in Sikim.
Khecheopalri Lake is
considered as one of the sacred lakes of Sikkim by
the Hindus and Buddhists. The lake remains hidden in the
forests. It is believed that birds do not permit even a
single leaf to float on the lake surface.
Kalimpong is a small
hill station between Siliguri and Gangtok. The road is
one of the most scenic routes in this part of nation.
The swift flowing Teesta river runs by the side of the
road adding to the beauty of the scenery. The name,
Kalimpong, has three different origins. One, it means
the place the local tribesmen gathered to organize field
sports, second, it's takes it's name from the Bhutanese
King's minister's stronghold and third, it is named
after Kaulim, a fibrous plant found in abundance in this
region. |
Day 07: Kalimpong
- Bagdogra - Singapore (Breakfast)
After breakfast, transfer to Bagdogra airport
for your flight back to Singapore. |
